A small home-based computer game company which has just four workers spread across
both sides of the Atlantic has been nominated for the industry's
equivalent of an Oscar.
Epsom-based Slitherine is hoping its latest title, Legion Arena,
will pick up an award at the Independent Games Festival in San
Franscisco next Wednesday, last year the firm scooped the visual arts award with its game,
Spartan.
The company was formed five years ago by father and son team, Iain
McNeil and Ian McNeil senior, who live in Epsom, together with Philip
Beale, who was originally from Epsom but now lives in Canada, and
Alex Scarrow, from Hastings. The Slitherine team all work from home
to help keep down costs, and communicate via the internet, only
meeting face to face on a bi-monthly basis.
Iain said: "Last year we were up against a lot of companies
with much bigger budgets who aren't just working from home, so it was
good news for us to win it."
The company is breaking with growing trends in the gaming industry
by remaining a small firm. Many smaller firms have been selling up or
merging. For more details go to: www.slitherine.co.uk
