Complaint:

Objection to a regional press advertisement that was headlined "NATIONAL REGISTER FOR FILM & TV EXTRAS".

It continued "IMMEDIATE OPPORTUNITIES … NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. OVERSEAS TRAVEL POSSIBILITIES. PHONE FOR DETAILS … WE COMPLY WITH THE EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES ACT 1973". The complainant: 1. objected that the advertisement omitted to state that, before their registration was accepted, clients had to pay a £25 registration fee and an additional £15 charge for scanning three photographs; 2. challenged the implication that the advertisers' business was national; and 3. questioned the implication that the advertisers gave clients employment opportunities that involved overseas travel. 4. The Authority challenged whether the advertisers offered immediate employment opportunities.

Codes Section: 2.6, 3.1, 7.1, 54.2 (Ed 10)

Adjudication:

Complaints upheld The advertisers did not respond to the Authority's enquiries. The Authority reminded the advertisers of their responsibility to respond, to hold documentary substantiation for advertised claims and to send it to the Authority promptly on request. The Authority told the advertisers to withdraw the claims immediately and consult the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) Copy Advice team before they advertised again. The Authority asked CAP to advise its media members of the problem with the advertisers.
