Aquamass UK The Fanfare 23 Pevensey Walk Corby Northants NN18 0JP Complaint:
Objections to a regional press advertisement and a specialist magazine advertisement for a homework scheme. The first advertisement was headlined "NEED A JOB?" and stated "Working From Home. Full or Part time. No Experience. You can earn up to £300 or more Weekly guaranteed, plus bonus, securing our inquiry envelopes … no cash outlay".
The second advertisement was similarly worded. The follow-up literature that people received when they responded to the advertisements stated that a one-off fee of £12 was payable. 1. One complainant challenged the claim "no cash outlay". 2. Another complainant, who sent £12 to start work but received no response from the advertisers, challenged whether the advertisers offered employment opportunities as advertised. 3. The Authority challenged the earnings claims. Codes Section: 2.6, 3.1, 7.1, 54.4d, 54.4f (Ed 10)
Adjudication:
Complaints upheld The advertisers said they would respond in writing to the Authority's enquiries but did not do so. The Authority considered that their non-response was a breach of the Codes. The Authority reminded the advertisers of their responsibility to respond to its enquiries, to hold substantiation for advertised claims and to send it to the Authority on request. It told the advertisers to withdraw the advertisements immediately and consult the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) Copy Advice team before they advertised again. The Authority asked CAP to advise its media members of the problem with the advertisers. |
